Yes, I can.

The magic of 3-word answers*

Lately, brevity has been fascinating me.

Economy of words.

How do you convey your key message in the lowest number of words?

Ancient Greek philosophers spent one hour coming up with 45 words is what I just learned.

Which reminds me of what I call the “Who is paying?” concept…

Meaning:

You throw some words at someone in a couple of seconds. Like a volcanic eruption.

What stays is a mess… and a confused recipient.

Not much thought went into your message.

Now you give yourself 5 minutes to think about what you wanna say. Then you draft, edit, and express it - both orally or in a written manner.

Did you just spend 10 minutes on conveying a key message as opposed to 10 seconds?

Yes, you did.

But because YOU PAID THE PRICE by investing your time, your recipient receives a well-written, precise, and concise message tailored to her.

In the case of the volcanic eruption I eluded to before, SHE PAID THE PRICE when trying to decipher what all your lava is about.

In communication, someone always pays the price.

And if no party is paying upfront, then the price will present itself… and that’s what we usually call “conflict”.

Someone always pays.

Are you paying a little upfront?

Or… are you paying the cost of a volcanic eruption?

Here’s your gateway drug:

*and 5 and 7 words for that matter

A surreal, minimalist scene with a Greek philosopher chiseling a small, sharp phrase into a towering stone, while lava erupts from a nearby volcano, splattering in slow motion. A ticking clock floats above, casting a long shadow. In the foreground, an abstract face wiped clean from confusion, as handwritten words float around like billowing clouds. Color palette: warm tones with stark contrasts, blending classical and modern elements, creating a thought-provoking, almost absurd visual that evokes both intellect and urgency.
